Where the Mission Stands Today
Fisher House Wisconsin is actively supporting military and veteran families today through the Milwaukee VA Fisher House, while also raising the funds needed to help build and sustain Wisconsin’s next Fisher House supporting the VA in Madison. Demand for free, nearby lodging continues to grow, and families traveling for care at VA medical centers rely on the comfort, stability, and support a Fisher House provides.
Your generosity ensures families can stay close to their loved ones now and helps expand this proven model of care to serve more families in the future.
What Is a Fisher House — and Why It Matters in Wisconsin
A Fisher House is a home away from home, located near military and VA medical centers, that provides free lodging for the families of active-duty service members and veterans while their loved ones receive medical care. Across the world, 101 Fisher Houses help families stay close during some of life’s most difficult moments — without the added stress of hotel costs or long commutes.
In Wisconsin, these homes are supported by Fisher House Wisconsin, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that helps fund the construction and operation of Fisher Houses across the state. Since opening at the Clement J. Zablocki Veterans Medical Center in 2016, the Milwaukee VA Fisher House has supported more than 6,300 military and veteran caregivers and provided over 20,000 nights of free lodging, offering comfort, stability, and compassionate support when families need it most.
Fisher House Wisconsin also partners with the national Fisher House Foundation and the Department of Veterans Affairs to expand this proven model of care. Together, the Milwaukee and future Madison Fisher Houses will provide more than 11,680 nights of free lodging each year, saving families over $2.3 million annually — costs no family should have to bear during medical treatment.

Who is eligible to stay as a guest at Fisher House?
Fisher House guests may include family, friends or caregivers of veterans or military members who are hospitalized or receiving medical care at a VA approved medical facility.
In some circumstances, veterans or military members receiving extended, outpatient VA approved medical care may also be eligible to stay – when accompanied by a caregiver.
Typically, guests must live more than 50 miles away from the VA approved medical facility to qualify, however exceptions may apply.
